Honolulu Silent Book Club

Book club burn. Usually, it’s a race to finish a 700-page saga you didn't even pick, only to realize half the group didn't read it anyway. Awkward. And not fun.

Silent Book Club is the cure. No homework, no pressure, and definitely no mandatory economic histories. Just bring whatever you’re currently loving, grab a spot, and read in good company.

Arrive: Say hi and settle in.

Read: Enjoy an hour of pure, uninterrupted book bliss.
Mingle: Chat about what you read. Or don't! This is a no judgment zone!

Come hang out and finally get through that "to-read" pile!

Kawaikui Beach Park is on the far edge of Aina Haina going east, practically the last thing before Niu Valley. It has free parking, shady trees, and a (public park) restroom.

If the parking is full, maybe wait a few minutes to see if anyone leaves, and if not, the closest neighborhood parking is on Kirkwood, which is a 7- to 10-minute walk from the beach park.

Gina is hosting! Look for her in a shady spot on the Waimanalo side of the park (the left side as you're facing the ocean)!

Bring snacks and drinks if you want. Bring a chair or beach towel and perhaps some sunscreen. Bring your physical books, ebooks, audio books, textbooks, comic books, or whatever!

We'll chat a little, take a voluntary group photo, then read for about an hour, and then chat a little more. Socializing is totally optional, of course! Please add your name to our email list (if you're not on it).

Leeward side, it’s time to get cozy! The Honolulu Silent Book Club is headed to The Boba Room for a special crossover event that’s part library-vibe, part concert, and 100% community magic. Whether you’re looking to crush your TBR (To Be Read) list or just want to soak in some local talent, this is your spot.

We are stoked to have the incredible Noah Hull (@noahplayspiano) hosting us! Not only is he coordinating the readup, but he’s also providing the soundtrack to our afternoon.

### The Game Plan:

• 12:00 PM: The Warmup. Grab your favorite boba or a shot of espresso (shoutout to @thebobaroom808!), find a comfy nook, and say hi! We’ll snap a quick, voluntary group photo before we dive into the pages.
• 12:30 PM: The "Shhh" Hour. One full hour of pure, uninterrupted silent reading. Just you, your buddies, and your book.
• 1:30 PM: The Social Hour. Surface from your story! Stick around to chat about what you’re reading, keep powering through that chapter, or just vibe out.
• 2:00 PM: The Music. Noah Hull takes the keys! Settle in for some beautiful live piano music to round out the day.

If you’ve ever been in a book club, you know how chaotic the whole thing can get. People don’t read. Or they read differently. Or you race through the last chapters just to make the meeting. Someone inevitably chooses that 700‑page deep dive into the economic history of a country you didn’t know existed.

Silent Book Clubs take all this pressure away. Just show up, say hi (or not!), and read whatever you brought, or select something from the state library's amazing collection!

Emily (a librarian!) is our host. Meet in the Language, Literature, and History section -- first floor, left wing as you enter, straight back.

Parking. There's metered parking all around. Street parking is free after 6. The nearest lot is at Iolani Palace (metered, free after 6), which is also secure, because the palace locks the gate at 6. If you wish to leave before the library closes at 7, just let a security guard know and they'll open the gate for you.
