- College Planning During and After Divorce – Vesta's Hingham, MA HubLink visible for attendees
Join our CONFIDENTIAL event to learn/understand the complex question families impacted by divorce often ask – Who pays for college?
About this event:
Understanding how to fund your child’s college education can be complicated for parents who are separated, in the process of divorcing, or already divorced. There is typically no legal obligation to pay when your family is not involved with the probate and family court. However, the court might order you to contribute when you are divorced or going through a divorce.
Join our Hingham, MA Hub of professionals who will present strategies for paying for college and applying for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, they will cover what to expect, provide insight into how you might avoid court intervention, and discuss ways to plan for the future if a child is not yet college-age.
Topics Covered:
- Post-Divorce Adjustments: What can you do if your initial divorce agreement doesn't address college expenses? Learn practical steps to involve your ex-partner in sharing college costs.
- Income Fluctuations: If your financial situation has worsened since your divorce, while your ex’s has improved, what legal avenues can you explore to rebalance contributions towards your child’s education?
- Non-Compliance Issues: What are your options if a parent refuses to fulfill their agreed-upon obligations for college payments?
- Child Support Modifications: Understand how your child’s college attendance could affect your child support obligations and entitlements.
- Tax Benefits: Uncover tax credits and deductions available to divorced or separated parents contributing to college expenses.
- Potential Pitfalls: Learn the traps to avoid when negotiating and planning for your child’s education with your ex-spouse.
This webinar aims to offer you the clarity you need to make informed decisions, minimize court intervention, and set the stage for your child’s educational future. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights and practical advice.
