Book Summary
After losing their wives, upstate New Yorkers Abe and Dan each discover that solitary fishing trips help them keep grief at bay. When the two men strike up an unlikely friendship, weekend outings to the Catskills become a comforting ritual, until they hear an old local legend about Dutchman’s Creek.

The story goes: the secluded stream can grant any wish…if you’re willing to bargain with a shadowy figure known only as the Fisherman. Desperate to undo their loss, Abe and Dan venture deep into the mist-choked hills, where an unfinished dam, a long-abandoned settlement, and something vast and hungry beneath the water await.

Part folk-horror, part Lovecraftian nightmare, part elegy for the people we can’t let go, The Fisherman asks whether hope itself can become a hook, and who, exactly, is doing the reeling.

You can check the trigger warnings at the bottom, or dive in blind if you prefer a surprise.

Don’t worry if you haven’t finished the book, we’ll start by chatting about whatever spooky (or not-so-spooky) reads we’re enjoying before diving into the featured title. Come for the eerie atmosphere, stay for the lively conversations and, of course, the cats—because let’s be honest, that’s why you’re really here, isn’t it?

Questions? Feel free to drop a comment or message me (Gonzalo) for more details. Hope to see you there!
