Dear Hot Sourcers

We are delighted to announce our line-up of SIX speakers for our 'FILMIE' on Thursday 8 September. This will be an evening of short talks (with some short film clips thrown in for fun) followed by a panel discussion on what makes Norwich a Creative City.

Please join us for what will be an entertaining and fascinating time. The show will start at 6pm prompt.

This FILMIE is a tribute prequel to the 6th Norwich Film Festival (https://www.facebook.com/norwichfilmfestival/?fref=ts). It is a chance to celebrate the vibrant indy film community in our city. It's also your chance to find out what it takes to get into and succeed in the film business.

Introducing the evening will be Sarah Steed, Business Manager at NUA. She will briefly outline some of the funding opportunities available for people in the film business. Our main speakers will then be:

Craig Higgins (https://www.linkedin.com/in/craig-higgins-7885788a), who is co-director of the Film Festival, will give you an insight into the challenges of judging the hundreds of entries. He will share his experience of reviewing films from local and international filmmakers. And give you some tips on what the judges are looking for. Andy Barrow (https://www.linkedin.com/in/abarrow), who has recently moved to Norwich, will share his experience of starting out in film making. Including scripting, casting, directing and screening a five minute movie on zero budget. Tom Martin (https://www.linkedin.com/in/tom-martin-34a06a27) from Forward will focus on how to create broadcast standard commercials for web and TV, with a small team and even smaller budget. He'll share some of the technical and logistical challenges that go on behind the scenes. Josh Trett (https://www.linkedin.com/in/josh-trett-78826611b)will share his experience of making his first short film, Above the Fold. The unpredictable obstacles and how to overcome them. And the challenge of finding a wider audience. Dale Beaumont-Brown (http://www.elixirmedia.tv/#team) from Elixir Media will share the highs and lows of making a 90-minute movie about Cannabis for global release - using crowd-funding as well as blood, sweat and some tears. Alex Morris (https://www.linkedin.com/in/atmmorris) from Lambda Films - on the power of stories in commercial filming and the importance of the sector to Norwich. We will round off with a panel discussion about what makes Norwich a Creative City. We'll then have about an hour of socialising at the end (between 8pm and 9pm), with delicious wine supplied by Norwich City Council's Economic Development team. We might also have some tasty treats (to be confirmed). Thank you to NCC for also sponsoring the running costs of this Meetup group for the next year. And thank you to NUA for their continued logistical support.
