What we’re about
This is a space dedicated exclusively to the appreciation of Houston's vibrant and diverse classical music scene. It is the goal of this group to bring this wonderful music to as many enthusiasts as possible from every walk of life, breaking down barriers of socioeconomic class, race, level of music education/background, etc. in the process. To that end, I try to include as many free and low-cost concerts as possible, from as many different venues/ensembles as possible throughout the greater Houston metro area.
I am very pleased to observe that one glance at the wonderful people who comprise this rapidly-growing group will prove that this goal has already been met, nay exceeded; our aficionados are professional musicians, ensemble directors, hobbyists, professionals and laypeople from an astounding variety of fields with exceptional knowledge of the art. And then there are just curious young minds minds like myself whose child-like curiosity has over time blossomed into a lifetime journey of blissful wonderment, fueled by a raw passion ever-evolving in intensity and reach. But maybe that's all of us on a most fundamental level.
At the end of the day, sometimes all we really need is another person or people willing to accompany us to a concert, to realize at the very least that there are others out there in our very own city or locality who share our love, passion, and curiosity for the art, and that there is an actual framework in place to facilitate this curiosity (indeed, a common response from many of the members I have met since this group began is just how relieved they were to find a "starting point" that makes it easier for people either new to town, the Houston classical music scene, or classical music in general to get out and enjoy classical concerts and recitals any time they wish). So yeah, if you are looking for somewhere to begin or continue your classical music journey, this is probably your place.
Once you get a taste of the experience, myriad brilliant possibilities are set in motion. I can personally attest to this, and also to the immense appreciation of this and similar platforms as brilliant tools for bringing people's shared interests right back down to the people themselves. And the glorious world of classical music is no exception. See you at the symphony!

The Texas Medical Center Orchestra’s From Darkness to Light concert marks a significant milestone as we celebrate 25 years of musical excellence and resilience. This concert reflects on our journey through challenges and triumphs, illuminating the power of music to inspire hope and transformation.
The evening opens with Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64. We are thrilled to feature as our soloist Dr. Mann-Wen Lo of the University of Houston's Moores School of Music, who will bring Mendelssohn's vision to life with remarkable artistry.
Following this powerful concerto, the orchestra will present Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, a monumental work that traverses a wide emotional landscape, from the depths of despair to the heights of joy. This symphony, with its iconic Adagietto, reflects the struggles and triumphs of the human spirit, making it a fitting tribute to our 25 years of dedication to the community and the arts.
Join us for this unforgettable evening as we celebrate our anniversary and the resilience that has defined our journey.

Hobby Center has a parking garage, which costs money but is the most convenient. If you're familiar with Downtown Houston/Theater District, don't mind walking, and are confident in your parking spot hunting and parallel parking skills, then you can park on nearby streets for free after 6pm!
Also, they have security (they are very nice). They inspect your bags so don't bring drinks! You'll have to chug them or pour them out. You can buy drinks at the Concessions window inside or refill your water bottle at a water fountain. The ushers are very nice and will show you where the water fountains and restrooms are.
