SQL Workshop: Writing SQL 101

Hello!

This free workshop gets you hands-on with writing SQL statements, starting with SELECTs and building up to JOINs, and GROUP BYs and SUMs and AVERAGEs. Along the way, we'll discuss the context behind using databases, what other uses there are, and why SQL is cool / where using SQL can be especially advantageous.

Along with other students and mentors, you'll get to practice:

1. Writing some basic SQL statements for read
2. Writing SQL statements that combine JOINs, GROUP BYs and more for analysis
3. Using relational database concepts to learn more

We welcome all to this workshop. It is designed for SQL beginners / as an introduction. If you are looking for more intermediate topics such as:

• Query performance optimization / advanced SQL
• Database setup and management
• Thinking critically about analysis: asking the right questions

These are great topics, but would be covered in either future workshops, jams or talks.
