Community Vigil at the Rothko Chapel: Grieving the Floods, Gathering in Hope

Details

✨✨This is an unhosted event at the Rothko Chapel that we wanted to pass along to the Death Collaborative community—no need to RSVP to attend✨✨

In the aftermath of the catastrophic floods that have swept through our Texas communities, leaving destruction, displacement, and heartbreak in their wake, we invite you to gather in shared remembrance, mourning, and hope.

On Tuesday, July 15 at 5:30 PM, the Rothko Chapel, in partnership with the Institute for Spirituality and Health at the Texas Medical Center, will host A Community Vigil for Remembrance and Grief—a space for all who seek comfort, connection, and healing in this time of collective sorrow.

This free and public event will offer an opportunity to pause and hold space for those whose lives were lost, for survivors who face the long road of recovery, and for the many first responders and community members who acted with courage and compassion. Through the power of presence, reflection, and ritual, we will honor what has been lost and affirm the strength that remains.

The evening will include interfaith prayers from spiritual leaders, personal reflections from those directly impacted, live music that offers solace, and a community-centered remembrance ceremony. Attendees are invited to contribute memorial submissions onsite, whether through a memory table or a digital portal accessible via QR code.

Volunteers trained in spiritual and emotional care will also be present for anyone who wishes to speak privately, receive prayer, or simply sit in silence with another.
Doors will open at 5:15 PM. Chair seating will be provided, and no registration is required. All are welcome—regardless of faith, background, or where you are on your journey through grief.

We will come together not only to mourn, but also to find strength in one another. In honoring those we have lost, we also lift up the resilience of our communities and begin the long but vital process of healing—together.

Please join us.
