About us

Houston Inner Loop Book Club 📚
Welcome! We're a community of readers who meet monthly to discuss great books, from timeless classics to modern favorites, with the occasional nonfiction pick. Whether you're a seasoned bookworm or just getting back into reading, you'll fit right in. Expect lively debate, thoughtful conversation, and good company. We also head out together now and then for theater nights and other book-adjacent outings.
Haven't finished the book? Come anyway. The discussion is always worth it.
📖 UP NEXT
1️⃣ Piranesi by Susanna Clarke: A haunting, imaginative puzzle-box of a novel about memory, reality, and the beauty of solitude.

2️⃣ Frankenstein by Mary Shelley: The original science-fiction novel, in which a brilliant scientist creates life, then abandons it, with devastating consequences.
3️⃣ Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro: An artificial friend observes the family she serves in this moving novel about love, loneliness, and what makes us human.
4️⃣ The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro: A beautifully restrained story of an English butler confronting duty, regret, and what a life of service may have cost him.
5️⃣ Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë: A powerful coming-of-age classic about independence, love, and a young woman's struggle to define her own life.
6️⃣ In Cold Blood by Truman Capote: The landmark true-crime account of a Kansas family's murder and the killers who were caught, tried, and sentenced.
7️⃣ The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett: A family saga about identity, race, and belonging, following twin sisters whose lives split in very different directions.
8️⃣ East of Eden by John Steinbeck: A sweeping Salinas Valley retelling of Cain and Abel that asks whether we can choose our own path or are doomed to repeat our parents' sins.
9️⃣ Don Quixote, Part One by Miguel de Cervantes: The funniest classic you've never finished, about an aging gentleman who declares himself a knight and rides out with his loyal squire Sancho Panza to right the world's wrongs. We recommend the Edith Grossman translation.
🔟 The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman: A witty mystery about four retirees who solve murders from their retirement village.
1️⃣1️⃣ Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy: A sweeping Russian classic about love, marriage, society, and the cost of defying convention. We'll announce this one early so everyone has time to read it.
