Like reading sci fi or fiction but hate watching your friends'/coworkers'/partner's eyes glaze over when you talk about it?
You've come to the right place, friend. This is a book club for those who read, are interested in reading, or are interested in getting interested in reading fantasy and sci-fi books.
Our selections are democratically chosen and run the gamut from contemporary authors like Naomi Novik and Patrick Rothfuss to veterans like Brandon Sanderson and Ursula LeGuin all the way to the golden era of Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury.
Speculative fiction, military sci-fi, high fantasy, paranormal, dystopia — prepare to bring your knowledge to bear as we discuss books and share recommendations for good reads.
Anyone of any age from anywhere can join as long as you're willing to share your thoughts.

This is the original Houston Fantasy/Sci Fi Book Club, founded in 2011.
In April 2025, we were forced to re-brand when a small-time local realtor took advantage of an unfortunate situation and seized control of our club. In addition to inserting himself where he was not wanted and refusing to leave, this person quickly began expelling any and all members who expressed any displeasure over his actions or even dared to question his unscrupulous behavior, starting with the leaders of the group.
This usurper also helped himself to our welcome message and other verbiage, which is why you now see two different book clubs that look suspiciously similar on Meetup. Clearly he was looking to take control of a thriving group without having to put any work or effort into cultivating that group himself.
This group, rebranded as the Houston Sci Fi/Fantasy Book Club, is comprised of the active members of the original group and anyone else who just wants to continue enjoying sci fi, fantasy, and nerd culture with like-minded people in a drama-free environment.
