Houston Sierra Club (local branch of the Sierra Club) holds outings for outdoor activities: hiking, camping, bicycling, backpacking, kayaking, etc. These include local one-day events, weekend trips, and week long trips to National Parks and other destinations.

About the speaker: Christina Schwerdtfeger worked as an environmental professional for 34 years, assisting industrial and government clients with their regulatory compliance and reporting responsibilities. She retired in 2021 but has been volunteering with various non-profit organizations, especially Coalition for Responsible Environmental Aggregate Mining (CREAM). Christina holds a Ph.D. in chemistry and taught several environmental classes as an instructor in University of California Irvine's Extension Program.
Quarries play a significant role in the state’s economy, but what do they mean for our water? How much water do they actually use, how do they affect nearby water sources, and what regulations govern water use by quarry operations in Texas?3 attendees
