Details

July Meeting Program:
Trees & Their Care
Speaker: Bill Wyatt, owner of Grace Outdoors Organic
This talk will describe how Grace Outdoors Organic uses biology and Mother Nature to invigorate distressed trees. We will introduce the concept of how plants interact with the environment and will talk about the Soil Food Web. We will show before and after pictures of how we help trees.
Grace Outdoors has been fertilizing lawns and trees organically for twelve years. We also operate a small nursery where we grow organic herbs and landscape plants to sell at local farmers' markets.
A REPORT ON THE JUNE BAY AREA PROGRAM:
On a stormy Wednesday night in June, 25 Bay Area Sierrans braved the ominous weather to hear Dr. Brandon Reddell describe the conditions for a planetary habitable zone. These include liquid water, UV, photosynthetic, ozone, rotation, obliquity, tidal, astrosphere, electric field, space weather, and quantity of water. All of these conditions must to be present at the same time. Also, depending on a star's size, some planets are excluded. For example, the flares from stars smaller than the sun would kill any living creatures on its planets.
Directions: Driving east on NASA Parkway, go past the stop light immediately beyond the Hilton at Space Center Blvd. At the next stop light, turn left away from the lake into the park. It's the building with the blue roof.
