NOVEMBER GENERAL MEETING:
"EXPLORE HOUSTON PART 2 - SPOTLIGHT MEMORIAL PARK"

At 1,500 acres Memorial Park is bigger than New York's Central Park. With more than 10,000 visitors a day, Memorial Park has a higher population than most Texas cities. It's a wonderful woodland forest in the middle of a massive city. The park is loved by runners and walkers, birders and bikers. The park features soccer, softball and swimming, volleyball, tennis and golfng. It has sunny places for tai chi, shady places for picnics, and even a croquet court with wickets. Add to the amenities, a "living bridge" and the gateway to the Houston Arboretum, and it's no wonder this park is so popular. Unfortunately, popularity could not save the park from the devastating effects of the historic drought that hit Texas. Now, with the help of the Memorial Park Conservancy, the city aims to return the park to its former glory and envision what the park can be for Houstonians today and tomorrow. A master plan will soon be underway; and it will offer a blueprint for the future of Memorial Park. Learn about the process and how you can participate in shaping the future of this urban oasis as the Memorial Park Conservancy presents an overview of the Park's past, present, and future!
