The Arctic Defense Campaign is a coalition of environmental, wildlife, and native Alaskan communities working to enlist the support of Houston businesses, organizations, and local leaders to urge decision-makers to keep harmful drilling and industrialization out of this culturally and ecologically valuable public land reserve.
The Arctic Refuge is nearly 20 million acres of America's wildest public lands, providing critical habitat for iconic wildlife, sustaining Indigenous communities, and offering landscapes beloved by hunters, anglers, and recreators alike. The Coastal Plain, "the biological heart of the Refuge”, is home to threatened polar bears, caribou, and nearly 200 species of migratory birds. Meanwhile, drilling here is risky, costly, and deeply unpopular; many companies and banks have already walked away.
We believe the harms of industrialization in the Arctic Refuge far outweigh any profits.
