Saturday, January 10, 2026, 9 am, the Houston Sierra Club will visit San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge (SBNWR) to enjoy birding and wildlife observation. We’ll look for hawks, egrets, herons, ducks, shorebirds, and other birds in the prairies, woods, and wetlands of SBNWR.

If you have COVID symptoms/are sick don’t come! We want everyone to be safe. By going on this outing, we will be with individuals who are vaccinated/unvaccinated. It’s each person’s choice to participate in this outing.

Bring a daypack, lunch, 2 quarts of water, snacks, hiking shoes, cameras, binoculars, spotting scopes, bug repellant, sunscreen, field guides, and warm clothes. Long pants are recommended! No pets/firearms/radios! Set your phones to silence. We’ll be back in Houston by 5 pm.

To carpool/caravan (voluntary) from Houston meet just W of the Starbucks in Meyerland Plaza at 7:30 am. Look for a “gray” Honda CRV (WMP 3632). Directions are:

1. S on SH 288 to FM 2004 in Brazoria Co.
2. Turn rt onto FM 2004 and go SW.
3. Pass Lake Jackson, cross Brazos River, and at the intersection of SH 36, FM 2004 becomes FM 2611. Continue SW on FM 2611.
4. Cross San Bernard River and take a lt on FM 2918.
5. Go on FM 2918 to CR 306.
6. Turn rt onto CR 306, go 2 m, and turn lt into SBNWR.
7. Drive to “Bobcat Woods” parking lot sign and turn rt.
