XR's immersive impact and emotional immediacy make it a powerful tool for journalism and advocacy. From Nonny de la Peña's pioneering work in "immersive journalism" to VR documentaries, advocacy experiences, and courtroom reconstructions of crime scenes, AR and VR can put audiences inside stories and events in ways traditional media cannot.

We'll explore the history and current state of the art of XR in journalism and advocacy: what's worked, what hasn't, and the opportunities and ethical questions that come with using immersive technology to inform, persuade, and build understanding. We'll also have a number of notable XR pieces available for attendees to experience firsthand.

We will, as always, discuss the latest AR and VR news (including the Steam Frame launch!), and demo the latest hardware and software. Members are welcome to share hardware and software they're developing, give reviews, or speak on topics. If you have something you'd like to present, reach out to us to let us know!
