Free Street Soccer in East Downtown
Details
Join us across the street from the FIFA Fan Fest in East Downtown during the World Cup!
This unofficial street soccer court was created as part of the Houston Town Futsal Ball-A-Block program. These pickups at The Block are free to play, but donations are appreciated to help maintain the space.
Ball-A-Block Program
Ball-A-Block is our version of the Adopt-A-Block program, but in the process of picking up litter, we are also creating open spaces for public use where Houstonians can play street soccer. Essentially, this is our DIY approach to making use of dilapidated asphalt surfaces and/or concrete structures and flipping them into pop-up futsal courts for pubic use.
Location
The Block street soccer court is located in at EaDog Park (across the street from 8th Wonder Brewery) at 2218 Polk St.
How We Play
- King of the Court (winner stays)
- Don't be a dick (don't be the one killing the vibe)
- 5v5 (no goalies)
- 1st team to two goals wins (5:00 minute games if no goal scored)
- You shank, you shag (you kick the ball off the court then you get it)
What to Bring
- Flats (court surface is concrete)
- Water
Parking
During World Cup only, the operators of the parking lot are charging for parking everyday of the World Cup. To avoid paying for parking, we recommend parking on the side streets on the other side of Emancipation Ave. and walking two blocks to the court.
Cost
- $ Donation-based
- 100% of donations go back to making improvements at The Block Street Soccer Court and raising awareness through marketing efforts
