Here Are This Sunday’s (June 2nd) 2 Topics (Voted in last Sunday)

1) The 10 Humanist Commitments -- Are They a "Good" Answer to the 10 Commandments?
Variations on the Judeo-Christian "10 commandments" serve as guides to daily living for millions around the globe, regardless of how well / poorly they are respected. Humanism also has its 10 Commitments -- how do you feel these compare to the 10 Commandments? How relevant are the 10 Commitments to you? Are they adequate to our modern world? Adequate to maintain and grow secularism?

2) Do We Need an Identity?
Many people have strong identities based on religion, ethnicity, nationality, tribe, language, race, etc. Eg, indigenous peoples trying to regain their identity lost due to colonization. Is an identity necessary? Is the lack of it harmful? Do identities divide us? What are the pros and cons?

We Vote on June 2nd For June 9th Topics

A) Should We Ban TikTok?
The concerns are Chinese access to user data, and political influence on the user feed by manipulating the algorithm. Should the government warn/educate us about their concerns, ban the app, force it to sell to a non-Chinese company, let the market decide?

B) MAID Waterboarding? Real or conspiracy theory? Jordan Peterson
Does the MAID euthanasia process make the victim feel like they're drowning in their own fluids/waterboarding? What's wrong with overdosing them in morphine, instead?!

C) Should Sex Offender Registries Allow Public Access? Why Aren't There Registries for Other Criminals?
The US is the only country that makes sex offender information public. Also, is it fair to force sex offenders to report their whereabouts for years after they complete their sentences? Should there be registries for other types of criminals?

D) Do You Support Legislation to Sue Businesses for Health Care Costs?
BC Bill 12 – 2024: Public Health Accountability and Cost Recovery Act, allows government to sue businesses like social media companies, manufacturers, grocers, and anybody that markets a product that carries any health risk whatsoever. The legislation would be retroactive and apply when the marketer knows the harms but there is no regulation to prevent them (eg, tobacco before regulation). Is this an effective way of preventing harms? Could this deter business investment, innovation, and small business creation, while enhancing monopolies due to high potential costs?

E) Is Over-Policing a Problem, A Solution, or Neither?
In most of the world, it's common for poorer communities to demand higher police presence if they experience higher than average crime rates, with much support for preventive work eg, carding, surveillance cameras, patrolling. In Canada/US, some activists claim over-policing creates, rather than prevents, victimization, and less policing will lower the crime rate. Should police presence be proportional to the crime rate?

F) Should it be mandatory for employers/schools/prisons to accommodate religious requirements?
Employees, students, and prisoners can demand religious accommodations including rescheduling, diet, attire, prayer areas, etc. Do you agree?
