Easy Field Trip: Old Stage Coach Road

After I departed Tassajarra Creek Road on our last field trip, I drove South on 101 toward San Luis Obispo. Shortly before the three lanes of 101 merge into two lanes, there is a turnoff for Old Stage Coach Road. There is a sign coming from the North. It's a wonderful road that follows the trail for the original stage coach that ascended/descended the grade. It's also part of the old 101 highway. Old Stage Coach road is well maintained all the way to the top of the grade and can be accessed there. It is mostly one lane, but there are a few turnouts. It's a better photo venue than Tassajarra Creek Road. I think you find it interesting. Mountain bikers and hiker use this road and there is a parking area shortly after you enter Stage Coach Road. We will meet there at 8:30 AM. As usual, we will meet for coffee/breakfast after we shoot. Time and place to be decided at the parking lot.

From San Luis Obispo headed North, there is a left turn lane shortly after you pass DEVAGLIO REAL ESTATE on the right. Again, be very careful about the speed of the traffic on 101.
