The reading for October has two parts:

  1. Continuing our series from Philosophy: A Very Short Introduction, we're looking the part of Chapter 7 about Friedrich Nietzsche
  2. Selections from Nietzsche’s book Ecce Homo:
  • Preface
  • Why I Am So Wise
  • Why I Am So Clever
  • Why I Write Such Good Books

We use Amazon links for reference, but recommend using a library or purchasing from an independing booksore.

The recommended translation is
Ecce Home, trans. Duncan Large (Oxford)
https://www.amazon.com/Ecce-Homo-Becomes-Oxford-Classics/dp/0199552568/

A reasonable alternative is:

Ecce Homo, trans. Hollingdale (Penguin)
https://www.amazon.com/Ecce-Homo-Becomes-Revised-Classics/dp/0140445153

There’s also an older (mid-century) translation by Walter Kaufmann, which might be easier to find in libraries. The one by Large is still recommended.

There are also older ones in the public domain that can be found online. The language in those can be a little harder to follow.
