Have your red wine at the ready! Using Kast, we'll be watching the 2019 movie, Bite me, which stars Christian Coulson (Tom Riddle from Chamber of Secrets). The creators of the movie reached out to Harry Potter groups (including ours) during their promotional tour, so we thought it would be fun to watch it as a group. There's at least one Harry Potter reference in the movie. Please create an account on http://kast.gg if you don't already have one. The platform can be a little tricky, so we suggest you try it out ahead of time to make sure you're signed up and have accepted the invite to our viewing party if you haven't attended one with us before. Movie description: A subversive romantic comedy about the real-life subculture of people who believe that they're vampires and the IRS agent who audits them. Bite Me was directed by Meredith Edwards and written by Naomi McDougall Jones. The film stars Christian Coulson, Naomi McDougall Jones, Annie Golden and Naomi Grossman. The film premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival. NOTE: Given the nature of the film, we request there be no identity or kink shaming in the chat.
Kate is the host of Pohick Library's Young at Heart Book Club (a book club for adults who enjoy young adult literature). Join the group for its November book discussion: The Diviners by Libba Bray by registering on the library website for the event: https://librarycalendar.fairfaxcounty.gov/event/5967048 This book, set in the 1920s, pairs well with Fantastic Beasts! It's about a group of teens who come together and use their abilities in the supernatural (divining, dream walking, invisibility, healing, etc.) to save the world. The group (*cough*found family*cough*) is one of the most diverse you will find in YA (as far as race, sexuality, geography, family structure, class, etc.). We will discuss book 1 of the series, The Diviners. There's no need to read the other books in the series (though, if you have, Kate will be happy to discuss those with you at another meetup!). Note: This will be run through the library's Zoom account, so you must register for the library program in order to receive the link.
We reread the book earlier this year, so we're going to rewatch the movie together now! Join us on Kast to watch Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and chat with fellow fans while watching. Kast works as a phone app, a desktop app, and in a browser. If you don't already have a Kast account, we recommend you create one and send an invite to join the DADA Kast party a day or two before the event so there's time to approve you and get you access before the movie starts.
