CUDA vs. OpenCL
Details
Based on attendee interest, we'll have a meeting devoted to the pros and cons of CUDA and OpenCL. Rather than a head-to-head debate, we'll aim to have presentations addressing the strengths of each and an introduction to what the programming is like.
Given the multitude of methods available for writing CUDA and OpenCL code, I'd like to encourage all members to consider offering a brief introduction (2 or 3 slides) of their use of CUDA or OpenCL. I think this will give us a good feeling for the pros & cons of using these APIs in practice. It will also give us all a chance to learn about libraries and methods we might not be aware of. Please contact Eliot to be one of the speakers.
Proposed Agenda:
6:00-6:30pm Introductions & Current Events - We'll review the announcements from AMD's Fusion Developer Summit. Attendees are encouraged to tell us a bit about themselves or mention any news we've overlooked.
6:30-7:30pm CUDA Intro with Pros & Cons - Eliot Eshelman
7:30pm-8:30pm OpenCL Intro with Pros & Cons - Ken Domino and Dmytro Konobrytskyi
Microway will provide pizza.
