Fair Housing Update: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You!

Details
Join us in person for an educational lunch & learn on Wednesday, September 1 at Sweetwater Cuisine in Virginia Beach. At this meeting we will discuss recent changes to the fair housing laws which necessitate immediate and substantial changes to tenant screening procedures. Also, learn the latest on “testers” and enforcement actions.
Our speaker James B. “Jimmy” Wood is an attorney with Willcox Savage and assists residential property owners and management companies with a wide range of matters related to compliance with the Federal Fair Housing Act and similar state and local laws. Mr. Wood is called on to defend against allegations of housing discrimination filed with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and similar local fair housing agencies. Mr. Wood and his firm also defend clients in federal and state litigation involving allegations of housing discrimination on the basis of disability, race, color, religious, sex, national origin, age, familial status, or other protected classes. Mr. Wood and the Willcox Fair Housing Team have substantial experience drafting and reviewing fair housing policies and procedures.
Mr. Wood graduated cum laude from the University of Richmond School of Law. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Hampden-Sydney College, where he graduated magna cum laude and won the James Madison Award for Distinction in the Government Major.
