Film Club - O Brother where art Thou (2000)

Details

This month we are watching O Brother where art Thou, a 2000 satirical comedy-drama musical film by Coen brothers, starring George Clooney, John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson. The film is set in rural Mississippi in 1937, and it follows three escaped convicts searching for hidden treasure while a sheriff relentlessly pursues them. Its story is a modern satire which, while incorporating social features of the American South, is loosely based on Homer's epic Greek poem The Odyssey.

PFA Film Club hosts free screenings of thought-provoking films, followed by a discussion about the raised philosophical issues, for general public. In 2025 meetings are held every third WEDNESDAY of the month at the Cafe of St. Hilda's East Community Centre, 18 Club Row, London E2 7EY. The nearest station is Shoreditch High Street on the Overground. The screening starts at 18:30 pm and we need to vacate the building by 9:00pm. (note the change of times from last year!) We offer complimentary light refreshments during the event.
