Reel Philosophers: "Media and critical thinking - friends or foes?"

Details

Inspired by the tradition of philosophical symposiums, Reel Philosophers events will help the participants sharpen their critical thinking through themed screenings and discussions gently facilitated by professional philosophers.

Reel Philosophers, co-produced by Philosophy for All and Reputy, is part of the Human RenAIssance series in Fleet Street Quarter aiming to connect the business community and develop human intelligence.

Our inaugural event, taking place at DasDas Box, will involve a screening of Wag the Dog (a 1997 American political satire film starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert De Niro), a short kick-off panel, followed by smaller group discussions facilitated by the resident philosophers, and a social with music in a cosy bar of the venue:

17:30 Doors open
18:00 Introduction
18:20 Film screening
20:00 Panel discussion: Anja Steinbauer, Rick Lewis, Peter Worley and Alexandra Konoplyanik
20:30 Group discussions facilitated by philosophers
21:00 Social at the venue bar
(drinks can be purchased throughout the event)

Philosophy for All (PFA) is an independent non-profit association open to everyone interested in philosophy, active since 1998. It hosts a number of regular free events for the general public.

Reputy.io helps job seekers discover, grow and showcase their human potential through soft skills.

DasDasBox is a sustainable arts and culture hub in the Fleet Street Quarter, fostering creativity and mental health, whilst connecting local communities.

This event is part-funded by The Royal Institute of Philosophy through the Local Partners programme, of which PFA is a participant.
