Details

Tom Rubens - French Rationality in 'The Age of Reason'

This talk will examine the achievements of France's 'philosophes' in the 18th century. The emphasis will be laid on the historical and social contexts of French thought in this period; and, in that connection, some reference will be made to preceding European thought in the 17th century. The aim will be to convey the immense importance and forward-looking character of the work of the 'philosophes'--much of which anticipated further developments in the 19th century.

This event is sponsored by the Royal institute of Philosophy.

PFA is currently holding Kant's Cave meetings upstairs at the Two Chairmen, 39 Dartmouth Street, SW1H 9BP, with Zoom option for those who are not able to join in person, every first Monday of the month. Join us for more great talks and discussion! All welcome, link available when you sign up.
