Hitching stone (Cowling circular).
The walk starts on arrival of the 09.50 Bus M4 from Keighley, (08.50 is when the bus leaves Bradford Interchange).
Alight at Gibb Street opposite Park Road
The Walk:
Distance:. 9.5 miles
Ascent: 439 metres
Most of the walk is on tracks and paths across farmland and heather moorland, chance of mud on a couple of sections. Weather permitting we should enjoy spectacular 360° views
The Route:
From the end of the village we take a track heading towards the Pennine Way. to climb steadily towards shooting lodges possible early stop for coffee. Our path continues ahead and in the near distance we see the trig point at Little Wolf Stones. Leaving the Pennine Way to take the Millenium Way heading towards Keighley Moor Reservoir for our lunch stop. Continuing on local tracks and footpaths passing three farms to leave the footpath and enter Access Land (thankfully the tracks should be pretty clear as the heather is just coming in to bloom

Eventually we reach The Hitching Stone at 373 metres offering views towards Lund’s Tower and Cowling Pinnacle.
We leave the Hitching Stone to continue along the ridge of Earl Crag then follow a series of paths back to Cowling

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink. Strong boots are recommended as some of the paths could be be muddy. finish time is approximate. Sorry, no dogs allowed. Please note, our walk leaders are not first aid trained.
