I’m always on the lookout for something a little different for our group, and I was really excited to come across this event in Berkeley at a great venue.
Mortified is one of those shows that’s hard to explain but totally worth it—adults get up and read their most embarrassing childhood diaries, letters, and lyrics out loud. I’ve gone a few times, and every time I end up laughing way harder than I expect.

A heads-up: they strongly recommend arriving early if you want a seat (otherwise, it may end up standing room only). Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door.

I’m setting our meetup time for 6:15 PM. Please plan to arrive right at 6:15 so we’re ready to go in when the doors open at 6:30 and can get seats together. We’ll be a bit early (the show starts at 7:30), but it gives us a chance to connect before the show, which is always nice.

They do have beer, wine, and food available if you’d like to grab something before it starts.
I’ll make sure I’m easy to find and will share my cell number in case you need to reach me.
If you like to laugh—and can relate to being a little embarrassed as a teen—you’ll love this event.
More info: Hailed as a "cultural phenomenon" by Newsweek and celebrated for years by the likes of This American Life, The Today Show, The Onion AV Club, & Entertainment Weekly, Mortified is a comic excavation of teen angst artifacts (journals, poems, letters, lyrics, home movies, schoolwork) as shared by their original authors -- in front of total strangers!

Where else can you hear grown men and women confront their past with firsthand tales of their first kiss, first puff, worst prom, fights with mom, life at bible camp, best mall job, and reasons they deserved to marry Bon Jovi? Submissions come from a wide range of participants, from professional performers to total amateurs. All in the noble pursuit of self-degradation. Share the shame.
