Grandfather Mtn; a challenge.

We are the Sloth Hike Team of WNC: “We will get there when we get there.” We dare to go where the ‘real’ hike groups don’t !!
John Muir didn’t like the word ‘hike’. “We ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them.”
I am going to Grandfather Mtn Park; Up to 8 ppl are welcome to join me.
Hike Distance: 2.0 mi total Accum ascent: 400 ft; Elevation: 5000 ft. Trail map in photos below.
Pace: 1.0mph – because I’m an ol’ Codger.
Difficulty: All of the trail is large rock - most is climbing.
Masticating will be ‘in motion’.
Drive time: 1.5 hrs/ 77 mi 1-way. (arrive 10am)
Return Not earlier than: 2:30p (=6.0 hrs)
Carpool contributions appreciated. $10.00 suggested
Park Admission Fee: $30 per person.

We suggest slightly open windows while carpooling. Only you know your own health status so judge accordingly if an event may endanger your health or the health of others.
Please bring an extra pair of shoes to avoid bringing your muddy shoes into the driver's car at the end of the hike.
I do NOT suggest bringing Fluffy on this event
DESCRIPTION;
Remember - hikes led by ‘the Curmudgeon’ tend to have challenging surprises.
Mountain Trolls are thieves; Zip your backpacks tight.
We will park at the Hikers Parking area and hike the Grandfather Ext trail (0.6mi) to the Grandfather Trail (0.5mi) to the Swinging bridge. Then returned on the 'Bridge trail' (0.4mi). Several steep sections (400 ft accum ascent). All of the trail is large rock - most is climbing.
The Bridge Trail: walk through rhododendron, galax, red spruce, Fraser fir, and yellow birch. 0.4 mile on switchbacks down the mountain, passing under the Swinging Bridge. You'll be awed by the massive rock outcroppings on this trail.
All hikes are at your own risk. You are responsible for your OWN safety and adequate equipment.
