Bald Rock Preserve; a Saunter

The Bald Rock is a large overlook viewing the Piedmont of SC. The preserve contains a complex of granite outcrops, seeps and waterslides surrounded by a mosaic of mixed pines and hardwoods. Lichens and mosses have colonized portions of the rock outcrops. Joined with forces of weather, these pioneer species create pockets and cracks in the granite, which are filled with sand and organic matter.
I am going to the NEW Bald Rock Preserve south of Caesarhead Pk on Hwy 276; Up to 12 ppl are welcome to join me.
Remember - hikes led by ‘the Curmudgeon’ tend to have pleasant surprises.
We are the Sloth Hiking Group: “We will get there when we get there.” We dare to go where the ‘real’ hike groups don’t !!
John Muir didn’t like the word ‘hike’. “We ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them.”
Details: Hike Distance: 1.5 mi RT In&out; Accum ascent: 200 ft; Pace: 1.5mph
Difficulty: New trail built recently. High point is in the middle of the section. 150ft ascent (and descent) in both directions.
Incessant prattlers will be assumed to be having an affair.
I will be carrying the ‘Ent-Ward’ that gives us permission to pass thru the forest.
THIS IS A DOG-PARTICIPANT HIKE. This event is NOT for those who are uncomfortable with the antics of fun-loving dogs. Well trained dogs (you don’t have to yell) can be 'off-leash'. 'On leash' during the lunch stop. Small (lap)dogs may carpool. Large dogs will drive themselves.
Drive time: 40min; 32 mi 1-way
Apprx return time: 1 PM (=2.75 hrs)
Carpool contributions appreciated. $4.00 suggested

We suggest open windows while carpooling. Only you know your own health status so judge accordingly if an event may endanger your health or the health of others.
Please bring an extra pair of shoes to avoid bringing your muddy shoes into the driver's car at the end of the hike.
