About us
To write, one needs a room of one's own, but writing does not have to be a solitary activity. The Wordcraft Collective is a community of Brussels-based authors writing in English. It is a place for poets, novelists and storytellers, for everyone with a creative spark and an itch to compose with language. Through regular writing sessions, workshops by experienced instructors, and other social events, we aim to provide a place where you can hone your skills, share frustrations and exchange ideas.

What makes a character queer? And how do you create a queer character who feels alive, truthful, and real rather than stereotypical or tokenistic? In this workshop we’ll explore what queerness can mean on the page, and how it can shape character, desire, conflict, and point of view.

You’ll leave with practical tools and increased confidence to write queer characters with depth and nuance, and to approach (queer) storytelling with greater care and creative freedom.
We’ll combine discussion, short examples, and guided writing exercises that help you challenge assumptions, generate new material, and test ideas quickly on the page.
No prior experience or specialist knowledge is needed. Open to (fiction) writers of all backgrounds and levels. You definitely don’t need to identify as queer to take part, but you do need to bring curiosity, openness, and respect. The workshop will be in English.

The Poem of the Book

Do you have a favourite book you want to make the subject of a poem? This workshop will explore poems that are in dialogue with literature, and how poets bring in their favourite authors. From the classics to the contemporary, we'll look at how poets explore their relationship with the novel and their authors. Homage, dialogue or exploration, we'll see how prose becomes the subject of poetry and discuss the significance of particular novels for you. We'll use poems as prompts, poems that look at Woolf, Keats, Gide, Tolstoy, Cavafy, to see how poets and those closest to them have engaged with their literary heroes through poems.
Please have a think in advance about the books and novels that have been important to you or to those around you, perhaps the characters in the novels you related to or reacted to, or your relationship with the novelists themselves.
