The Super Hunter's Moon and the spiral of the Wheel of the Year
As the Earth tilts slowly toward winter in the Northern Hemisphere, a powerful spiritual arc unfolds—one that many neo-pagan, Wiccan, and earth-based traditions recognize through a sequence of three harvest festivals, each corresponding to a distinct turn in the agricultural and spiritual year. this year the Hunter Moon will be an extraordinary Super Moon: The full Moon on 6/7 October 2025 will be close to Saturn in the night sky, making for a beautiful naked-eye spectacle of Moon and planet.
October’s full moon, the Hunter’s Moon, has a history with deep roots in agrarian and Indigenous traditions across Europe and North America. It follows the Harvest Moon (closest to the equinox) and rises with a brilliance and early timing that historically allowed hunters more light to track game in the fading light of autumn. Spiritually, the Hunter’s Moon speaks of preparation, precision, and provision—gathering what is needed before the cold sets in.
In neo-pagan and spiritual ecology traditions, the Hunter’s Moon represents a final calling-in: a gathering of strength, wisdom, and resource for the inner winter ahead. It's a reminder that not all harvests are visible, and that some of our most important work begins when the external light begins to fade.
The fastest growing form of spiritual identification in the United States over the past decade has been Wicca and related expressions of Neo-Paganism, modern Paganism, and other earth-based spiritual practices. These traditions hold in common a deep reverence for the natural world, affirming that divinity is present in Earth itself (the Gaia hypothesis) and that all beings and elements possess a spiritual magick. Many Pagans are polytheistic or pantheistic, honoring multiple gods and goddesses, while others focus on the sacred wholeness of nature as a living unity.
What makes these movements distinctive today is the renewal of new magics—creative, experiential practices that blend ancient wisdom with contemporary ecological awareness. Rituals, seasonal festivals, meditation, divination, spell-work, and herbal healing are not only means of spiritual connection, but also ways of reimagining how humans live responsibly within the natural world.
All are welcome! This is an ongoing event in a series of spiritual ecologies, Join us, and walk in blessing.
