Buttercup Audubon Nature Preserve
Details
Make sure you park here at this sign in the photo. The sign is hard to see and I go by each time because the directions lead you a little further. If you go past a red barn you just missed the parking.
Anyway, about the trails: Buttercup Farm Sanctuary is located in the northeastern corner of Dutchess County just south of Pine Plains on Route 82. At 641 acres, Buttercup is an area of diverse habitats with rolling, open grasslands, second growth and more mature woodlands, a former orchard and a marshy, flooded woodland. There are six miles of trails throughout the sanctuary. Over 80 species of birds are possible on a good May day. Of special interest are nesting Great Blue Herons, Wood Ducks, Bobolinks and other birds of the field. Both Golden-winged and Lawrence's Warblers are seen periodically. The sanctuary is relatively undeveloped and is open from dawn until dusk, seven days per week.
We will be taking the red trail with a touch of blue and maybe green.
