Millionaires Row and more History Hike, (Rescheduled).

Rescheduled from a recent rainout.

Each time we've done this Members have gotten lost, arrived late and been confused as to where this is. SEE BELOW AND ALLOW EXTRA TIME. GPS HAS BEEN KNOWN TO BE INEXACT FOR THIS. Please know ahead of time where you're going.

It's important to read all the info as there aspects to this hike that aren't suitable for everyone. There's also an after hike bonus. See below.

It's been a couple of years since we've visited this very remarkable place. Views, views and more views from way up high and at The Rivers edge.

Millionaires Row was the name for the fabulous mansions that lined the top of the Palisades Cliffs. Their properties were amongst the most unique and spectacular in the country. While long gone, their remains can still be explored, which we'll do comprehensively.

THE HIKE: We will be off the trail more than on along the top of the cliffs at Millionaires Row. We will absolutely be numerous times fairly close to the cliffs edges and other vertical drops. This is perfectly safe, of course, unless you foolishly decide to hang off an edge or do something irresponsible. You must be comfortable being off the trail and in this environment, {it's sooo worth it!}. There will be nooks n crannies, rugged terraces, ruins, more. We'll then descend to the bottom of the cliffs where there's an old historic tavern, {not open}, and awesome River views. Lunch will be here and a probable bathroom. Then we'll hike along the cool river trail, see a waterfall, and ascend back up. THE ASCENT IS VERY STEEP, on a trail, but most would find this part STRENUOUS. In the past some have become fatigued and fallen way behind. You do need to keep up. It will not be a race, just slow n steady. In summary, it's an easy hike until the ascent. Around 6 miles but never quote me.

Bathrooms: None at the meetup so plan accordingly. The bathroom at lunch should be open but I can't guarantee it.

THE CRITICAL INFO REGARDING GETTING TO THE MEETUP: We meet at the Alpine Lookout which is between exit 1 and exit 2 on the Palisade Parkway. It isn't the nearby Rockefeller Lookout or State Line Lookout. ACESS TO THE ALPINE LOOKOUT IS ONLY VIA THE PALISADE PARKWAY NORTHBOUND. THERE'S NO NO NO ACCESS SOUTHBOUND. THEREFORE, TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND FROM NEW YORK, YOU MUST MUST MUST GO ALL THE WAY TO EXIT ONE, THEN GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY GOING NORTH. ROCKEFELLER LOOKOUT IS THE FIRST LOOKOUT. THATS NOT IT. IT'S THE NEXT LOOKOUT AND BEFORE BEFORE BEFORE EXIT TWO. SO COMING SOUTH YOU"LL HAVE TO ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO TURN AROUND AND HEAD BACK NORTH. Sorry for being so emphatic about it, but every time some have struggled to find it.

AFTER HIKE BONUS: Just up the road is the Sate Line Lookout. More rocking views, rustic cafe and formal bathroom. I'll be going there after. Hope you'll join.
