River Hook Preserve and Upper Nyack History Hike.

Details

This is brand new History Hike which we’ll do identically on Saturday 9-13 and Sunday 9-21. It features the River Hook Preserve where we’ll be received by a Friends of River Hook representative who will tell us about the former estate and open their carriage house just for us. In addition we’ll see the very impressive Hook Mt quarry, do the beautiful River Walk and explore some very cool lesser traveled spots.

Suggested donation: $5.00 as Meetup has doubled what they charge me.

All start waitlisted. Preference to regulars while endeavoring to add some newbies. Everyone is expected to stay wt the group. Slightly slower paced hike.

Park: ON LOCUST DR at N Broadway. Do not park in the Preserve.

The Preserve: A former impressive estate that was very neglected and is now owned by the Village of Upper Nyack. Their mayor has signed off on this part of the event.

The hike: Around 6.5 easy miles. Much of it paved. A few hills. Brief off trail. Lunch will be in a small picnic area on the River Walk. We then turn around before entering Rockland State Park.

Bathrooms: None at the meetup so plan. One port-o-john at our first stop at The Preserve and a big formal one at Nyack Beach State Park where we’ll pass thru a bit later.

Liability waiver signature required. NO GUESTS, runners, slow pokes, early outs. If you are on the waitlist you can’t just show up.

This a real treat for us to visit the Preserve for the first time. The area is dramatic for its scenery and full of history!
