George’s Island is a beautiful park on the River known for eagle watching, picnicking and its boat launch. Most are unaware of its extensive historical remains such as brick works and those of three former residences. There’s more historical things to see at Montrose Pt State Forest including a very rare Osage Orange Tree habitat.
The hike: Around 6-6.5 miles. Some flat, some possible slippery uphills. Several ups n downs. One short but steep uphill. Combination of trails, brief pavement and lots of off trail. ***The off trail has parts wt some overgrown areas. Nothing difficult but you have to be okay wt that.***
Bathrooms: One port-o-john at the meetup lot and one other along the way.
Park: Lower lot. Obvious.
No guests. Liability waiver signature required. No pets, runners, slow pokes. Distance and finish times are approximations only. Never quote me. If you are on the waitlist you can’tjust show up.
