The Beacon, (Tioronda), History Hike.
Details
Tioronda is a Native American term that means where waters meet. In our case, that’s the Fishkill Creek and Hudson River. We will explore this gorgeous area and much more. It’s a popular area wt other groups, but as a History Hike we’ll put a unique touch to it.
Suggested donation $5.00. All start waitlisted wt preference to regulars while endeavoring to add some newbies. Everyone is expected to stay wt the group.
The hike: Slightly slower paced. Long Dock Park, Dennings Point, Madam Brett, nooks n crannies, very extensive history. Laminated pics. Easy. 6ish miles. *We will pass by several overgrown areas on seldom used trails. There is poison ivy around but we wouldn’t be hiking on it. Some bushwhack. Some time on an abandoned RR. A few slippery knolls.* A formal lunch break on a beach. Varied terrain. Cascade waterfall. Ruins. Amazing scenery. More.
Meetup: Long Dock Park, south side by the boat launch and Port-o-John’s. It fills fast. If so, there’s more space in the park north side and overflow around the corner at the RR.
Bathrooms: Port-o-John’s at the meetup. The formal bathroom on Dennings Point may or may not be open. One Port-o-John at Madam Brett Park.
No guests, pets, early outs, runners, slow pokes. Liability waiver signature required. If you are on the waitlist you can’t just show up. Finish time and distance are best guesses. Never quote me.
Let’s explore an area that many do not realize the very extensive and diverse history in an incredibly beautiful area!
