Yonkers OCA Exploration History Hike

It’s been two years since we’ve done this popular event. Time to return!

Where we meet: Westchester County Lenoir Preserve Park, South Lot. HUGE MANSION WT PARKING LOT. 1076 North Broadway, Yonkers. Directly across from the intersection with Executive Blvd. WE DO NOT MEET ON THE DUDLEY ST ENTRANCE, which is on the other end of the Preserve. Meetup is at the southern lot

Suggested donation: $5.00. (Meetup has doubled their fee to me).

All start waitlisted wt preference to regulars who’ve never been while endeavoring to add a few new people.

This is a MODERATE-SLOWISH PACED HIKE. Everyone is expected to stay wt the group. If you want to run ahead or lag behind, these hikes aren’t for you.

The Hike: Around 5? miles. Much of it is flat, especially the Old Croton Aqueduct. However, there are several ups n downs and MANY STEPS. We will take a brief break, along the way, then a prolonged break at Untermeyer Gardens.

What we’ll explore: The grounds of the fabulous Lenoir Preserve, where there were 3 estates. A ruin, so bring a flashlight. We’ll go right to the shore of the Hudson River. Nooks n crannies. And the most fabulous wonderful amazing Untermeyer Gardens.

Bathrooms: The mansion at our meetup is closed. No bathroom there. But, there’s a nature center about a half hour into our exploration which, I’m told, should be open wt a bathroom. No other thereafter for a few hours until Untermeyer Gardens. There are many nearby opportunities close to the meetup so prepare please.
