What we’re about
The Hudson Valley Men's Adventure Group indulges in all forms of outdoor adventure with a focus on the Hudson River Valley but also the Adirondack and Catskills mountain ranges of New York State and New England, and occasionally beyond.
We are a group where newcomers can acquire skills and confidence from more seasoned adventurers, but also laugh and smile in a community where boys can boys. Our group recognizes time spent in the outdoors is little more than an extension of childhood play where climbing trees, sledding, swimming holes, and splashing in puddles was the measure of a successful day. Our trips and treks have the same focus on amusement but with the added challenges of goal-setting, adventure-seeking, and rugged terrain.
We recognize that child's play in the outdoors is more than sport, but serious business such that skills and equipment are essential. Our events organizers are skill-proficient in the adventures they plan and are eager to teach those seeking to learn. We also recognize that not everyone trying out a new sport has the gear needed to excel, so whenever possible we offer gear rentals on group trips utilizing AWAY Adventure Outfitters (AWAYAdventureGuide.com). We recognize that gear rentals give members the freedom to try out new sports without the big investment that often come with new sports.
We also believe that individuals matter. Our trips are made up of teams of individuals. Each member is encouraged to have their own experience, but also their own sense of responsibility. Our event organizers are guides who plan trips, but it is each member who embarks on his own trek, accounts for his own preparation and safety, and at the end of the day basks in his own sense of accomplishment. Great team members make for great teams; Great teams make for great outings.
