Here is a wonderful moderate Minnewaska hike. NO WINTER BEGINNERS. Spikes mandatory and I need to see them in the parking lot. If you are not properly prepared I will ask you to find another activity for your day.

It will be a 5ish mile hike. Jenny Lane, Mossy Glen, our usual wonderful hike along the creek. Meet in the AWOSTING LOT. Go straight after the toll booth.

Cell service is very tricky up there so you won't be able to get me if you are not there early. We will leave the parking lot by 10:15.

Bring: WATER, hot tea?, snacks, basic first aid supplies, and your camera....... :-) Hiking boots and MICROSPIKES mandatory. No trail running shoes or sneakers. You need support for your foot and loose fitting shoes will not give you the support you need.

You should have appropriate clothing, NO COTTON including socks and undergarments. You will need hiking pants with perhaps long johns. Socks should be hiking socks, wool preferably. Wear layers, again no cotton. Fleece, wool, wicking fabrics for your base layer. Your jacket is a hiking jacket please. Hat, scarf and gloves/mittens should be for winter hiking. Warm hands and head is very important. Hand warmers and hiking poles may help if you need them. If we need spikes they should go on winter hiking boots.

*** You WILL need spikes, not YakTrax. I recommend Kahtoola Microspikes, not their nano spikes that are great for your driveway. I will need to see your spikes in the parking lot. They should have 1/4 inch teeth.

You will need to answer questions to sign up. I will move appropriately prepared friends to the going list. ***If you bring a guest you are responsible that they are properly prepared too. ***

If you aren't properly prepared I will ask you to find something else to do with your day.. This is not an easy hike. Dogs welcome!!! We will likely dine afterwards in New Paltz.

Meet at the Awosting lot. Go straight after the toll booth. $10 per car fee. If you have an Empire Pass or are in an Empire Pass car you are free.

$2 Meetup fee. Check back for changes especially the morning of the event. If you don't get the notifications I send out you should check your settings. If weather is iffy I will post updates usually by 7am. Please send me your cell if I don't have it, I will return with mine. Happy trails!!!
