Spanish Conversation Meetup (New Paltz)

Details
¡Hola a todos!
Please join us Monday, July 28 in New Paltz!
We’ll be meeting for an evening of informal Spanish conversation. Show up whenever you like between 6 and 8 p.m. All levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced to native, Just bring whatever Spanish you have!
The restaurant: Includes a range of pub food, beers, wine, and cocktails. Visit the McGillcuddy's website here for a look at the menu. Please order at least one thing (even just a soda or some fries) to help out the restaurant that’s hosting us. We’ll have separate checks to make things easier.
RSVP: Please RSVP if you plan to attend and update if you can’t make it. This helps us give the restaurant a heads up for how many will attend so we can set up the table as needed.
Parking: Paid parking ends at 6 p.m. There are two lots on Plattekill Ave near the restaurants; one just behind and another down a bit by village hall/department of public works. For street parking, Plattekill Ave, Main St, Route 32N (North Chestnut Street) or Church Street are good places to look.
How to find us: Ask the hostess or just look for the table with mini flags from Spanish-speaking countries on it!
Event cost: Free to attend, but small donations welcome to offset Meetup organizer fees and miscellaneous expenses (like mini flags, posters).
Note: This is the first meetup for this group. I’ve been organizing a French meetup since February 2023 and plan to conduct this one the same way, with regular meetings every two weeks and informal conversation. There isn’t a particular theme for the meetings and it’s not a class. We just talk about whatever! Of course, many learners find it useful to practice particular topics/phases ahead of time. If you want to do that, some of the common questions at a language meetup are:
- ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas estudiando español?
(How long have you been studying Spanish?) - ¿Cómo aprendiste español?
(How did you learn Spanish?) - ¿Qué te motivó a aprender español?
(What motivated you to learn Spanish?) - ¿Qué parte del idioma te resulta más fácil o difícil?
(What part of the language is easiest or hardest for you?) - ¿Tienes una palabra o expresión favorita en español?
(Do you have a favorite word or expression in Spanish?) - ¿Dónde vives?
(Where do you live?) - ¿Dónde creciste?
(Where did you grow up?) - ¿Has visitado algún país hispanohablante? ¿Cuál te gustó más?
(Have you visited a Spanish-speaking country? Which did you like best?) - ¿A qué te dedicas?
(What do you do for work?) - ¿Tienes mascotas?
(Do you have any pets?) - ¿Qué quieres mejorar en tu español?
(What do you want to improve in your Spanish?) - ¿Qué te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre?
(What do you like to do in your free time?)
It can be useful to practice asking yourself and answering questions like this, especially if your Spanish is a bit rusty!
Please feel free to message me or post in the event chat below if you have any questions.
¡Esperamos verlos allí!
