The Talk
PHP Grows Up
Perennially mocked by those damned hipster-spectacled, artisanal-coffee drinking Ruby programmers, PHP is in the midst of a revolution. The last two versions have brought some much-needed improvements, opening the door to new frameworks, tools, and practises.
Join us for a brisk run-through of the most interesting developments in the PHP world, and learn why PHP is no longer the weedy kid on the beach getting sand kicked in its face.
Duncan McMillan
About Duncan
Duncan is a web designer and developer at Art & Soul (http://www.artandsoul.co.uk/), the company he founded in 1999. Three years earlier he used Netscape Composer to publish his personal home page on the world wide web and has been finding better ways to build websites ever since.
The Talk
JavaScript MVC and how Backbone.js saved my sanity
Originally considered something of a gimmick JavaScript has become one of the world's most widely used programming languages, enhancing user experience and functionality on almost every website built today. Over the last couple of years JavaScript MVC frameworks have emerged to address the challenges faced when developing increasingly sophisticated web applications. In this talk I will explain in simple terms what an MVC framework is and when to use one, drawing on my own experience of building a web application whose complexity rapidly surpassed my ability as a programmer.
We'll have the normal great chat and networking before and after the speakers. The talks will be commencing at 7pm.
See you there!
John
