About us
A Newtown-based philosophy group discussing ethics, metaphysics, methaethics and political theory. We feature one major philosopher per month (Plato, Nietzsche, Foucault...) across two fortnightly Wednesday night meetings. Come along to speak, connect, and learn.
The What
Our group is for anyone interested in philosophy, and who desires to speak, learn, create, and bond through the discussion of seminal ideas from political philosophy, ethics, metaethics and metaphysics.
We’ll be looking at the work of one philosopher per month, with each of the two meetups for that month covering a different key text. One philosopher, two meetings, two texts.
The Who
Philosophers we engage with include Plato, Hobbes, Nietzsche, Foucault, Arendt, and Rawls.
The When and Where
We meet fortnightly on Wednesday night from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Corridor Newtown on King St, Newtown.
How It Works
• 7:00 PM: Grab a cocktail or drink and introduce yourself.
• 7:15 PM: The host introduces the night's philosopher and text,
and spends a few minutes outlining its key ideas.
• 7:20 PM: Open, structured group discussion guided by four of five open-ended questions.
• 8:30 PM: Official wrap-up (feel free to stay and mingle).
About the organiser
Welcome Human Philosophers! I’m Jonny, the organizer of this group.
My academic foundation is rooted in Political Philosophy and Sociology, fields I studied at the PhD level at UNSW.
I love guiding discussions, breaking down complex theories, and ensuring everyone has a voice at the table. Whether you are well-read or just curious, I look forward to exploring philosophy and society together with you.
