About us
This group is sponsored by HumanistsMN, which brings together people who, without supernatural beliefs, aspire to lead lives of personal fulfillment and contribute to the greater good of humanity and the planet through reason, science, compassion, and creativity.
If you believe in those principles or are interested in learning about them or want to help others learn about humanism join us for our meetings, events, and social times.
We usually have a regular Humanist Community Gathering on the 3rd Saturday of the month but will send out a reminder to members when the topic/speaker is set (or check the calendar!).
In addition, there are many other smaller meetups during the month.
Meetings are open to anyone who is interested in humanism and wants to meet other humanists. But please considering joining HumanistsMN to help support us financially and build the power of humanism in our society. Join here!

Hike with Humanists!
Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden, 1 Theodore Wirth Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN, USCome join fellow humanists and friends for hiking and camaraderie on the first Sundays of the month! Connect with nature – and make new friends!
Our next hike is more of a wander through the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary in Minneapolis, near Golden Valley. Eloise Butler was a humanist and early member of First Unitarian Society (See her photo at the bottom of the image https://firstunitarian.org/FUSArchives/items/show/898). She put her humanistic care for plants, animals and people in action by creating a natural oasis in the city of Minneapolis as well as by teaching.
NO ANIMALS are allowed to enter the park! This is not an accessible hike for wheels. The paths have woodchips.
We will meet near the front gate. Parking is along Butler Garden (road/ path) and in the parking lot https://friendsofeloisebutler.org/pages/gardeninfob.html
Make sure to dress for the weather, including sturdy comfortable shoes, rain gear, and sunscreen, depending on the forecast. Consider insect repellent, too. You may also want a first aid kit, snack, and plenty of water. Bring walking sticks or canes if you so chose. Hiking in sandals can be iffy, but you may want to bring extra shoes if you want to change out of your hiking boots after the hike and/or during lunch.
Afterwards, we can meet at Yangtze Restaurant, 5625 Wayzata Blvd, St Louis Park, MN 55416 Eating lunch afterwards is totally optional, but highly recommended!!
Future hike locations will include: Fort Snelling State Park/Pike Island (Mendota), Lilydale/Harriet Island Regional Park, and Loring Park. (Fort Snelling State Park requires a State Park Pass and parking may have a fee.)

Humanist Film Series: "42" The True Story of an American Legend
First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, 900 Mount Curve Ave., Minneapolis, MN, USJoin us to celebrate the life of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play Major League Baseball in the modern era with the docudrama "42’"(PG-13, 2013). Arrive around 6:30 PM for a little socializing; as always, bring your own beverage. Some snacks will be provided but feel free to bring something to share if you'd like. The film starts at 7:00 PM followed by some post-movie discussion for those who care to linger and mingle.
The movie chronicles Robinson’s journey to join the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 and the nearly insurmountable racial animus he had to overcome to stay there. The late Chadwick Boseman (‘Black Panther’, (2018)) delivers a standout performance as Robinson while Harrison Ford sets aside his Indiana Jones/Han Solo personas to do some actual acting as Branch Rickey, the white owner of the Dodgers who seeks a special ally to break baseball’s color barrier. The film’s title refers to Jackie Robinson’s jersey number, which has since become the only number to be retired across all of Major League Baseball. In honor of Robinson’s accomplishments, no one will ever wear ‘42’ again – except on ‘Jackie Robinson Day' each April, when every ballplayer in MLB wears it in commemoration.

This film series is co-sponsored by HumanistsMN and First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, a humanist congregation. Please consider supporting one or both of these associations to help cover our costs and build the humanist movement. Click on the embedded links above to donate or join.
