CHAPTER MEETING: Learn about the Basic Income Movement

• Speaker: Liane Gale, founding member of Basic Income Guarantee Minnesota (BIGMN).
What if everyone were guaranteed a basic income—a periodic cash payment unconditionally delivered to all on an individual basis, without means-test or work requirement? An outrageous communistic ploy, a utopian delusion, an efficient inclusive social safety net, or the inevitable economic policy of a work-free future? Join us at our next monthly chapter meeting for this presentation on the emergent basic income movement. Liane Gale will provide background on the basic income movement and the major national and global players, review current practical applications, such as pilot studies, and discuss the potential as well as drawbacks of a basic income. She will also explore how a basic income could lead to different power structures and to system change.
Liane Gale is a scientist-turned-activist, who has been especially interested in politics and economics as a means to system change. She is a founding member of BIGMN and the international Basic Income Women Action Group, and has been a member of the national and international basic income community over the past three years. Within the basic income movement, Gale has been especially interested in exploring how a basic income could lead towards the creation of an economy and society based on caring for each other and the planet.

Curve Ave., around the adjacent park and along Groveland Ave. on the other side of the building. The #6 and #4 buses run along the Hennepin-Lyndale corridor, a block and a half away.
