Why bother with the holidays -- you may ask. Just ignore them. Best to crawl under a blanket until January. Even for all those non-believers who keep a “secular Xmas” -- the holiday has become crass, stressful, and materialistic. Who needs it?

But celebration is a unique and ubiquitous human response to life as social beings. Sitting out holiday festivities is to negate part of our humanity. How do we re-invent holiday traditions to reflect our contemporary lives and values?

Join us for some reflection on and celebration of that most auspicious time of year – the winter solstice. What meaning can post-modern people take from this ancient holiday? And how can we celebrate the season in a way that is commensurate with our understanding of the world and our humanist values?

Join us for reflection, poetry, musical suggestions, practical ideas, and much discussion on how to create and celebrate a winter holiday that is meaningful and fun.

Facilitated by Audrey Kingstrom, Humanist Celebrant and long-time creator and producer of winter solstice celebrations.
