National Day of Reason Breakfast with Minnesota Legislators
Details
Do you believe public policy should be guided by reason, evidence, and science? That lawmakers should maintain a secular government, without favoring one religion over another or the religious over the nonreligious? If so, please join us to commemorate the National Day of Reason on May 5.
Three humanist organizations are sponsoring a breakfast and reception that will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Vault Room in the State Capitol. You are invited to attend the entire time or to drop in when you can.
Our guest speaker will be Sarah Levin, founder of the consulting firm Secular Strategies and Chief Impact Officer of OnlySky Media, a new independent media company providing journalism, storytelling and opinion from a secular perspective. She will discuss ways that secular advocates can build more political clout in the face of growing threats to the principle of separation of religion and government as mandated by the Constitution.
We are inviting all legislators to attend and some have already said they plan to speak (see agenda below). Advocacy groups that support the Day of Reason principles will be tabling and speaking at the event. Confirmations so far include ACLU of Minnesota, Camp Quest North, Christians Against Christian Nationalism, Compassion & Choices Minnesota, and OutFront Minnesota.
A continental breakfast will be available throughout the morning (as long as food lasts).
