Community Gathering Presentation -- "The Roberts Court: An Appraisal"

This month HumanistsMN welcomes political science and law scholar Timothy Johnson to suss out the implications of the current U.S. Supreme Court -- the most conservative in history. All are welcome!

The Supreme Court's recent decision to strike down the constitutional right to abortion has scrambled politics nationwide as the midterm elections approach. It has also issued rulings that have weakened the separation of religion and government. How does the Roberts Court compare with those of previous eras? What is on its docket for next term?

Timothy R. Johnson is Horace T. Morse Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Law at the University of Minnesota. He has published several books about the U.S. Supreme Court, including Oral Arguments and Coalition Formation on the U.S. Supreme Court, A Good Quarrel, and Oral Arguments and Decision Making on the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also published more than forty articles and chapters in a variety of academic journals and his research has been funded six times by the National Science Foundation. Along with legal and political commentary, Johnson’s work has been covered by a host of national and international media outlets.
