Giving Up On Paradise: Leaving a High-Control Religion @ SECULAR SATURDAY

Join HMN member Ashley Allen as he shares his experiences as a former Jehovah's Witness, what caused him to "wake-up," and why he chose humanism. In this session, Ashley will explain who Jehovah's Witnesses are and explore the common misunderstandings and the sometimes troubling realities of life within a high-control religion. He will also delve into the painful consequences of leaving, and how best to understand and communicate with others in a similar situation - many of whom may be future humanists!

The presentation will be from 3:00—4:30. Afterwards, join other Secular Saturday attendees in the gallery for refreshments and socializing.

Ashley was raised from childhood as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He took his faith very seriously, got baptized as a teenager, and became an active preacher within the group. In recent years, he found himself questioning much about his faith, asking tough questions that shattered his worldview, which led him (to the surprise of many) to humanism - and HumanistsMN.
