Humanist Film Series: "Big Miracle"

Details

Join us the second Friday of each month for an entertaining and discussion-worthy movie as part of the Humanist Film Series. Next up, on August 8th, we'll be screening Big Miracle (2012, PG).

This is the true story of three whales trapped in the ice in Alaska that transfixed the world for several weeks back in 1988. The film conveys a solid message about environmentalism but, more than that, it shows how as many as five normally antagonistic factions can work together to achieve a common goal -- something we certainly need more of today. It's also the sort of uplifting, 'feel good' entertainment that will refill your reservoirs of optimism.

It's BYOB but snacks will be provided. Arrive around 6:30pm for the pre-show meet and greet; the film will start promptly at 7:00pm followed by some post-movie discussion for those who care to linger and mingle. Of course, bring a friend, meet a friend, or come make a new friend!

And, if you're old enough to remember events from 1988, consider inviting a younger person to accompany you (the content is appropriate for tweens and above) -- it will give everyone plenty to talk about! For more information about the film, check out the IMDB link at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1430615/?ref_=fn_all_ttl_1.
