News of relentless tragic events – local, national, and international – wash over us like a flood every day. Right here in Minnesota – and across the globe – the world is in a bad way. This overexposure to pain, injustice, and strife can gradually dull our empathy and compassion. Psychologists call it “compassion fatigue.” As humanists, who aspire to care for the well-being of all, how do we stop ourselves from becoming numb and helpless as we witness so much suffering?

Join us for our monthly Mindful Living session to wrestle with these challenging questions: How do we stay tender without breaking? How do we keep witnessing without turning into voyeurs? How do we resist paralysis in the face of so much need?

As always, we will begin with a short, guided meditation followed by discussion. Attendees are invited to share their own experiences and lessons with the group.

Each month we explore a different aspect of mindfulness and its associated practice from a secular humanist and naturalist perspective -- drawing on the experience and wisdom of participants. This month’s session is facilitated by HumanistsMN program coordinator and humanist celebrant, Audrey Kingstrom.
